-Meeting called to order by Mike Kmiecik, President, at 12:00pm

-INTRODUCTIONS were made around the table

-Chris Geiger Treasurer’s Report:

• Received check from the city of Mpls.
• Paid bike
• 500 bond for the car show should be refunded

-Government affairs: Dick Pitheon and Joey Senkyr

• On Chicago Ave 29^th to 46^th a 100 yards of gas line needs replacing.
• Outdoor seating ordinance
  • 125 residents for it / 100 bar owners against
  • Affects
• Uptown residents complaining about noise from roof top seating.

-Neighborhood News:

FRNNG:  Sat celebration- will attended, great day.  The parade came down Chicago Ave.

• For a memorable event close part of 46^th St.

Shannon Guernsey- Night on 48^th announced date is Saturday Oct 8^th p.m.

Discussed publicity- Listing all of FRN and 48^th & Chicago events i.e.

Facebook Amy expressed interest in a publicity task force.

-Old/New Business:

• Welcome letter packet
  • Joyce will contact Sue Filbin
  • Sandra will talk to BC chair.

• Paul Kinsley – 85 students 9^th through 12^th graders: arts and fuse charter school (46^th and 4^th) want to move ahead in neighborhood.  Minnesota passed a law that allows Community experts to be involved in curriculum.
• They want to partner to be involved in the neighborhood/ want students out in the community.
• They are currently recruiting board members.

3 parents/ 3 teachers/ 1 community member (2 more needed)

• Car Show: Had perfect weather
  • 51 cars showed
  • Both sides of Chicago were used; good crowd
  • Winner of – Jill D. Savoy
  • Need to do more children activities
  • Should have chairs by tents
  • Could have oldies music
  • Bumper car games

Spent: $150 to MN T’s for hosting the event

$186 to Highway tech for barriers

~$60 Atlantic Press- Banners (48^th and Chicago 8x2)

$300 to Watershed for distribution

$400 for city permits

$500 for bond

Had table and tent.

Mike took photos- Bikes and Pieces

Could get a few for our future booths

• Sunday July 24^th 8-3 Southside Spirit bike.

• Stage, PA – vendors with booths
• Low rider groups, stunts, kids race, series of adult races
• Volunteers are needed to man table.
• Brochures.

• Fall Festival committee needed

• Watershed, Amy (Spruce), Jacobs Well, FRNNG, Jazz Band (McRae), Karen Young

Kevin McDonald- Twin City Tennis; Had Sx

Bike Parking Station- Groups are looking for a place to park 8-12 bikes on the street.  Property owners must give up a spot.

Meeting was called to order by Mike Kmiecik, President, at 12:00pm

Introductions were made around the table

Chris Geiger, Treasurer’s was unable to attend.

Government affairs: Dick reported:

• The city is discussing the new stadium location
• Elizabeth Glidden is checking on the defective light poles
• We need to be looking for other sources of revenue. 
  • We need a volunteer to research grant sources and write proposals
  • Wells Fargo has a community reinvestment fund.  Joyce will write a proposal with Mike and Dorothy for our events.

Neighborhood News:

• FRNNG:  There is a team lined up to plan the parade for the June 4^th event.  Parade starts at 10 at 43^rd and Oakland, turns at 48^th, turns north on Elliot and ends at McRae Park.  Businesses encouraged to participate.  There will be bagpipes!
• Karie discussed the Wells Fargo parking lot.  It can be used after hours by the public.  There had been some problems with valet parking Friday and Saturday during business hours.  The bank does not call the city and tow.
• Pepito’s  Cinco de Mayo 5-mile race was a great success.  250 racers.  Dorothy sold water.  Watershed students had a table.  Racers wanted this to be an annual event.  Mentioned wanting something to do when they finished the race.  Next year have music, vendors?

Bike Race Sunday July 24^th:  Mike is working with Jason from _________

• SCABA is the sponsor of the race and has pledged $1000.  “Southside Sprint, sponsored by South Chicago Avenue Business Alliance”
• There will be multiple races.  Individual businesses can sponsor individual races and will be announced along with the race. Bikes and Pieces will sponsor the kids race.

Rich has been working on the website.  Mike Maxwell available to help.

• Need to send information to Rich to post
• Members should check their listing for any updates or changes.  Link to the site.
• Will add info on parade, events
• Interested in creating a page where members can post specials, sales, etc
• We need to publicize our website on all our publicity and all our events: 48Chicago.org

Car Show on June 5^th, 2011 (Sunday)

• ½ page flyers will be distributed to neighbors by Watershed School (4200 FRN households)
• Posters and flyers available for distribution and posting by businesses
• Postcards have been handed out to participants by MN T’z
• There will be a drawing basket – Each member can contribute items- tee shirts, gift certificates.  Must be present to win.

John proposed purchasing a banner for SCABA with our name, logo and website to hang on the tent when we have a “booth”.  Watershed students will create one.

Dorothy has volunteered again to do planters.  There are 20 pots- most need new soil.  She overwintered some spikes, but will purchase additional and plants.  Will try some seeds.  Sue F has marigold seeds from the neighborhood planting program to donate.  Cost will be $1200, and will include maintenance. John moved, Ed seconded, passed.  Money will be paid after receipt of city grant.

Mark Holdridge gave update on his summer concert schedule.

The date was set for the Fall Festival:  Saturday, September 10th
