SCABA meeting minutes for November 14, 2012 and December 12, 2012

The contents of this email are the minutes of the two most recent SCABA  (48th and Chicago) business meetings> these were held at Pepito's November 14, 2012 and December 12, 2012.

The November 14 meeting was the annual election meeting. At present the list of attendees appears to be missing. This list will be included in the next minutes.

Dorothy Pitheon gave a hand-written Treasurer's report (her last one!) As of that Wednesday

Opening Balance $1657.94
Deposit from the Minneapolis Festival (in fact, a refund from the city) $500
Disbursements 10084 to the Postmaster $94
Closing Balance 2159.94.

This report was unanimously accepted and she was thanked for her service. However since it is unlikely that we will get any money from the city in 2013, The Secretary was given the task (that he formerly volunteered for) of seeking new funding sources.

Dick Pitheon gave the Government Affairs report. He was planning to visit the new DFL leadership in the Legislature to get acquainted.

Neighborhood News was a recap of the "Night on 48th" event which went well.

An announcement was made to be sure to tip the staff (the meal was provided by Pepito's gratis).

The SCABA election was held. Mike Kmiecek had been nominated for President, John Dorgan for Vice President, and Alex Moreno for Treasurer. Ed Conway volunteered for Secretary, Having been Secretary for SCABA and FRNNG previously. These four were unanimously elected.

There was a discussion of winter pots and holiday decorations, but nothing was decided (short of money!)

There was a discussion of three 4recent rapes, one quite close to here (at about 34th and Chicago near Pillsbury House 35th and Chicago). A few days later a photo of the perp taken by a bus camera appeared in the STRIB, but no name or arrest followed. There was a suggestion to invite the new Police Chief soon.

The December 12, 2012 meeting was also held at Pepito's

Attendees were
Comment : I have the list but not the time to type it: again, next time.

There were no minutes to vote on. Alex Moreno gave the Treasurers report
Which at the moment seems to be missing and will be included in the next minutes.

Dick Pitheon gave the Government Affairs report. He had been at the Capitol and met with the new DFL leadership. They seemed more interested than the previous GOP leadership. This is good, although we have nothin to ask for presently.

Old Business included three items. The Car Show will be on Sunday June 3, 2013. We are negotiating a deal with the car club to hold it here for two or three years. The 48th and Chicago area now has a Facebook site to which Rich Jacobson of the Sword Club will attach the individual business Facebook sites. Finally, there are a number of art shows in the Cities during the warm weather. The most recent one is the Powderhorn art fair which has grown very fast and may run out of room this summer. They are looking for an additional site and are interested inh and Chicago for 2014.

Respectfully Submitted,

Ed Conway, Secretary

  • Pepito’s  Cinco de Mayo 5-mile race was a great success.  250 racers.  Dorothy sold water.  Watershed students had a table.  Racers wanted this to be an annual event.  Mentioned wanting something to do when they finished the race.  Next year have music, vendors?

John proposed purchasing a banner for SCABA with our name, logo and website to hang on the tent when we have a “booth”.  Watershed students will create one.

Dorothy has volunteered again to do planters.  There are 20 pots- most need new soil.  She overwintered some spikes, but will purchase additional and plants.  Will try some seeds.  Sue F has marigold seeds from the neighborhood planting program to donate.  Cost will be $1200, and will include maintenance.
